Solicitor – Office of the General Counsel - Contentious work, Birmingham
Our Office of the General Counsel advises on a wide variety of contentious and non-contentious risk issues that arise in the delivery of professional services across assurance, tax, and advisory sectors.

Role Overview
As a solicitor specialising in contentious work within our in-house legal team, you will:
1. Handle a variety of claims, issues, and projects, such as:
* Professional liability claims against the firm
* Regulatory issues, including enquiries and investigations
* Professional indemnity insurance matters
* Litigation, mediation, and alternative dispute resolution
* Other risk-management issues
1. Collaborate with colleagues to provide pragmatic legal advice to stakeholders, including partners and senior staff.
2. Instruct and oversee outside solicitors, counsel, and experts in dispute resolution related to professional services.
This position may suit a junior or mid-level litigator from a commercial law firm, but we welcome applications from all qualified candidates demonstrating the necessary skills.
Candidate Requirements
The minimum criteria to join us as a Solicitor include:
1. Being a qualified solicitor or barrister with substantial experience in commercial dispute resolution within England and Wales or a similar jurisdiction.
2. Having a good knowledge of law and procedures related to professional liability, especially concerning professional advisers.
Additional desirable skills include:
1. Understanding risk-management issues faced by professional services firms.
2. Pragmatic, commercial approach with the ability to improve outcomes and prevent issues.
3. Self-motivation and the capacity to manage conflicting demands.
4. Clear and persuasive communication skills, both oral and written.
5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
6. Strong relationship-building skills to gain colleagues' confidence.
