Assistant HR Business Partner – Whittington Hospital NHS Trust
Job Summary
Provide a proactive, quality HR Business Partnering service to a designated IRS Corporate division within the Trust, supporting managers and staff on workforce, policy, disciplinary, grievance, sickness, and employment matters. Partner with the wider workforce team to deliver workforce planning, recruitment, and retention plans, and drive organisational change initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
* Advise managers and staff on complex employment issues – National & Local Terms & Conditions, pay, grading, and Trust policies.
* Provide guidance on the interpretation and implementation of Trust policies.
* Support managers through disciplinary, Dignity at Work, sickness absence, and grievance processes (informal and formal stages).
* Sit on and prepare hearing panels (including appeals) for all staff.
* Assist with staff attendance issues, Bradford Score system, and cooperate with Occupational Health on rehabilitation, redeployment, and ill‑health retirement.
* Provide proactive advice on new employment legislation, procedures, and assist in defence of employment claims at tribunals.
* Contribute to the development & implementation of employment policy in line with legislative changes, negotiating and consulting with managers and ensuring appropriate training.
* Conduct research on best practice, legislation, and NHS Terms & Conditions across workforce partnering and advisory service.
* Support the HRBP on service and contract planning, TUPE transfers, change management, skill mix, workforce planning, budget setting, and organisational change proposals.
* Collect and process data for regular and ad‑hoc reports.
* Monitor performance of the designated area against key workforce indicators and help address performance shortfalls.
* Partner with the divisional workforce and OD team to develop and deliver HR training courses.
* Attend relevant committees and meetings to stay informed on developments in designated areas.
* Assist managers in creating job descriptions for Agenda for Change panels and participate in job evaluation panels.
* Offer recruitment and selection advice on complex or contentious cases, ensuring adherence to best practice and Trust policies.
* Ensure a seamless, high‑quality recruitment service for the in‑house Recruitment Team.
* Participate in relevant working groups and policy reviews.
* Provide cover for other team members when required.
* Offer advice via workforce and advisory email as needed.
* Support managers and staff in continuing professional and personal development.
* Help develop Standard Operating Procedures for the HR team.
* Collaborate within the wider team, with no direct staff management required.
* Support HR knowledge and skills development across the department.
* Advise on payroll issues arising from employment term complexities.
* Identify efficiency and quality improvement measures and support the implementation of action plans.
Qualifications
Essential
* CIPD qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
* ER knowledge and experience.
* Demonstrated ability to build relationships, work under pressure, and provide advice to the organisation.
Desirable
* NHS experience.
* Experience in change management and TUPE.
