JOB PURPOSE + SCOPE OF THE ROLE
* Performing fabrication & welding of high integrity products certified to Railway standards of EN 15085 and various high safety integrity fabrications by TIG and MAG processes by manual and mechanised methods to regular production schedules and assist in development and qualification of new products.
* Setting, programming and operation of fully mechanised systems and in accordance to engineering drawings, written welding procedure specifications and verbal instructions.
* Responsible for dimensional & self-visual inspection of all deposited welds to meet international ISO 5817 quality acceptance standards
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES + DUTIES
* Achieve and continuously maintain production welding certification to ISO 9606-1 and ISO 14732 standards in MAG and TIG processes through regular scheduled testing and on demand as required to demonstrate welding proficiency in various joints as applicable to production demands.
* Read and interpret engineering welding fabrication drawings, symbols, geometric tolerances. Fit-up and fully weld various fabricated assemblies in accordance with drawings using a mix of jigs and fixtures and manual setup techniques.
* Volume and small batch production welding of a variety of sheet, plate and tubular Butt and Fillet welded assemblies typically ranging between 2mm to approximately 75mm thickness in carbon and stainless-steel in plate and tube forms.
* Setting and operating fully mechanised MAG welding lathe for circumferential joints on various high criticality tube weld joints.
* Understanding and working to written welding procedure specifications, work instructions, acceptance standards and following verbal directions.
* 100% visual inspection of all production weld deposits in accordance with international standards.
* Use of various measurement equipment to inspect interim and final tolerances of assemblies in accordance to drawing.
* To perform production leak testing and any supplementary production inspections, repairs or assist in other assigned duties as necessary due to operational demands.
* Maintaining and monitoring welding and ancillary equipment and assist in troubleshooting functional issues on a regular / daily basis.
* Always maintain a safe and tidy work environment and safe performance of operations. Adhere to all Health & Safety regulations and company standards as required.
* Use of, hand, power and air tools, thermal cutting / heating equipment and cranes / lifting equipment.
* Complete records of production and quality documentation as required.
* Use of computer to access drawings and instructions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION (S) / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE
Essential: -
* ISO 9606-1 certification in MAG & TIG process Butt & Fillet weld in various positions and product forms or equivalent.
Advantageous: -
* Completion of a welding / fabrication or a relevant apprenticeship / training programme or qualification.
* Visual weld inspection training or qualification.
* ISO 14732 certification for mechanised welding.
* ISO 9606-1 certification in TIG process Butt & Fillet weld in various positions and product forms
Experience:
Essential: -
* Person requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the field of fabrication and welding with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, procedure specifications and perform welding inspections.
* Specific history of welding volume and/or specialist fabrication by MAG process on carbon steels in Butt and Fillet joints in a range of approximately 2mm to 75mm and plates for comparable high-quality and safety critical applications.
Advantageous: -
* Experience in welding of stainless-steel fabrications.
* TIG welding of fabricated assemblies.
