Job Opportunity: Family Learning Tutor
Would you like to make a positive difference to families in Kent? If so, we would like to hear from you!
Our successful Family Learning Team, part of Kent Adult Education in Community Learning and Skills, delivers a range of engaging courses to families in the community. Our high-quality curriculum and dedicated team aim to change aspirations and outcomes for adults and children alike. Families enjoy learning together, and many adults progress to further learning and employment after our classes.
We are recruiting a Family Learning Tutor on a Permanent 0.5FTE contract. The role involves delivering various Family Learning courses, including Family English, Maths, and Language (ESOL), in the Dartford, Gravesend, and Sevenoaks areas.
Our goal is to support parents and carers in engaging with learning, improving their life chances, and enjoying family life. The Family Learning provision is designed for parents and carers with basic skills needs and includes programs for families where English is not the primary language at home. The program also offers personal development, parenting, basic cookery, family first aid, and creative courses with embedded English and maths. The successful candidate should be willing to teach a broad range of courses both face-to-face and online.
The role is rewarding, interesting, and enjoyable. To join our supportive team, you should demonstrate that you:
* Hold relevant teaching and subject qualifications.
* Have experience working with families in the community.
* Are motivated to make learning fun, enjoyable, and inspirational.
* Are willing to complete standardised paperwork.
* Can deliver at Entry Level to Level 2 across various programs up to exam level.
* Are flexible to teach during various hours, including evenings, school holidays, and occasionally Saturdays by prior agreement.
* Are able to drive, as travel is required for the role.
English and maths skills at Level 2 or GCSE Grade C/4 are required to underpin all delivery, with programs mapped to the Adult Core Curriculum and potential progression to Functional Skills and Trinity ESOL qualifications. Knowledge of the Primary Curriculum is also necessary.
You will work in primary schools, Family Hubs, community venues, and online from home. Courses range from one week to four terms, typically delivered in two-and-a-half-hour sessions weekly.
Payment includes preparation time and teaching, based on a ratio of 1:1. You will be expected to attend three tutor meetings annually and actively engage in CPD.
KCC offers numerous benefits including flexible working options, health and wellbeing support, and career progression opportunities.
