North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) and University of Bristol and Weston Hospital Trust (UHBW) are working towards merging as one organisation from summer 2026.

Job overview

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to become a member of our Outpatient Reception team at the Bristol Dental Hospital.


Main duties of the job

The role of Receptionist / Clerical Officer is to serve as a contact for patients accessing our services. We are a small dynamic team providing an excellent service to our patients and staff. You will be working within a small team who enjoy a supportive and friendly working environment, where we encourage participation and learning from one another at all times and focus our efforts towards a patient‑centred service.

Key experience you will need to apply for the role

* Previous experience of being an initial point of contact for patients
* The ability to communicate effectively both via telephone and in person
* Appetite to learn and develop
* IT literate
* Previous experience using Careflow or another patient administration system is desirable


Person specification


Knowledge & Experience

* Previous reception experience in a healthcare or public setting
* Previous NHS experience
* Clerical/administration experience including filing and/or reception


Qualifications

* Educated to GCSE, grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths


Skills & Abilities

* Excellent/professional telephone /reception manner
* Flexible approach to duties
* Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy
* Good IT skills including Microsoft packages
* Confidence to handle difficult conversations with patients, relatives and carers
* Ability to work effectively in a busy team, adjust to change and motivate others
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
