Senior Application Engineer – Bespoke Pumping Systems

Bedford Pumps Ltd is looking for a Senior Application Engineer to take a leading role in the design, selection, and commercial delivery of bespoke, high‑capacity pumping systems used in critical infrastructure and wastewater applications.
This is a senior, high‑impact role where your technical expertise directly influences major project outcomes, commercial decisions, and customer success. You’ll work on complex, non‑standard solutions - owning the technical and commercial detail from enquiry through to quotation.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
* Lead the technical selection and configuration of bespoke pumping equipment based on detailed customer specifications and system requirements
* Take full ownership of high‑value, large‑scale quotations, ensuring accuracy, competitiveness, and target margins
* Produce and validate system curves, hydraulic calculations, and pipe friction loss analyses, maintaining full technical integrity
* Act as a technical authority during the enquiry and quotation stages, supporting both customers and internal stakeholders
* Collaborate closely with Sales, Engineering, and Commercial teams to deliver technically sound, cost‑effective solutions
* Support pricing strategy and commercial decision‑making, working alongside the Commercial Manager
* Manage multiple complex enquiries simultaneously, delivering high‑quality proposals to tight deadlines
* Maintain accurate costings, records, and documentation within internal ERP and data systems
* Provide ongoing technical guidance and mentoring to colleagues across the business
What We’re Looking For
* HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with strong expertise in fluid dynamics and bespoke pump systems
* Proven experience in pump selection, performance analysis, and system curve generation
* Strong background preparing technical and commercial quotations for large, complex pumping projects
* Experience within wastewater or similar industrial sectors, with knowledge of relevant standards and regulations
* Solid understanding of commercial terms, pricing, and margin control
* Experience working within an ISO‑certified quality environment
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and schematics with confidence
* Proficiency in ERP systems, pump selection software, and MS Office
