Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a driven and enthusiastic Advanced Clinical Pharmacist to join the Medicine and Emergency Care Team at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals.

We are looking for an innovative and motivated individual to help develop and lead the new pharmacy service in our Emergency Department. The Trust has provided significant investment into pharmacy and views us as integral for the future. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in this key specialist area and help to create a service to provide the best possible care for our patients.

The role will be based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) but there may be some cross-site travel required to our other site, the Freeman Hospital

This is an exciting time to become part of the Pharmacy Team at Newcastle, where under the leadership of our new Director of Pharmacy, the team is set to grow and take on several new roles.

For more information we would strongly encourage interested individuals to get in contact for an informal chat or visit to understand more about this role.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work to establish themselves as a key member of the MDT to improve processes related to medicines in our fast-paced Emergency Department (ED). You will need to have excellent communication and decision-making skills and be an experienced independent prescriber. Experience working in this environment would be an advantage, but it is not essential.

We will be looking for the successful candidate to work with colleagues to optimise pathways for patients to be prioritised and reviewed by the Pharmacy Team, and also to improve medicine usage within ED. There will be plenty of scope to develop the service based on the needs of the department and interest and you will be crucial in driving the direction of travel. The role will offer the opportunity to provide your expertise to patients at a crucial time. This role is key in our strategic pharmacy plans, and we will strive to support and make it a success.

There will be opportunities for personal and professional development within the role. Links with the school of pharmacy and Newcastle University will present opportunities to be involved in research and education. There is ample opportunity to develop your supervision and management skills in the department. There will be some operational commitments, including weekend and late-night working and line management. We are open to flexible working and would welcome discussions around this.
