Responsibilities
:
1. Lead and develop operational safety systems in line with ROGS and wider industry frameworks
2. Own the development and application of professional driving and shunting standards
3. Maintain an operational risk register and associated risk assessments to ALARP principles
4. Oversee the fatigue risk management system and deliver continuous improvement initiatives
5. Manage and communicate urgent safety notices and operational bulletins
6. Work alongside trainers and assessors to deliver high-quality safety training and briefings
7. Support PTS management and third-party access arrangements across the site
8. Investigate incidents and safety events, ensuring lessons learned are actioned
9. Deliver KPIs, performance reporting, and safety audits to drive best practice
10. Provide hands-on safety advice, coaching, and support to operational teams
11. Represent the safety and operations function at cross-business meetings when required
What We're Looking For:
Essential:
12. NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
13. Qualified in risk assessment and accident investigation
14. Strong background in rail operations and safety-critical environments
15. Train driving or shunting experience (past or present)
16. Proven ability to lead and sustain a strong safety culture
17. Knowledge of railway legislation and operational standards (incl. Rule Book)
18. Experience developing or working with ROGS-compliant systems
Desirable:
19. Current Train Driver License
20. Behavioural-Based Safety training
21. Excellent communication and influencing skills
22. Collaborative and solutions-focused approach
23. Strong leadership presence, capable of working at all levels
