JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Head of Logistics & Supply Chain as the lead member of the procurement team. Managing the procurement processes with suppliers to improve quality, reliability and traceability, to reduce product cost whilst ensuring continuity of supply of all components. Responsible for the contracting and purchasing of all ingredients and packaging for the company and the management of contracts with own brand suppliers.
GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manage the relationships with external suppliers with a focus on purchasing raw materials, packaging and consumables.
2. Ensure the availability of assigned items, including raw materials and packaging flow to ensure continuity of production and to support the company’s customer service, cost and inventory turn objectives.
3. Establish raw material suitability based on a brief; review and approve selection of suppliers, including assessment of supplier capability, technical capability and supplier development.
4. Manage the assessment of supplier risk.
5. Ensure stringent material control, accuracy and verification in recording stock.
6. Liaison with Production/Sales/Marketing/Technical to evaluate new and existing materials, keeping abreast of current and future market trends.
7. Foster excellent working relationships with all departments.
8. Develop the procurement processes and supplier relationships across all areas of the business.
9. Conduct supplier negotiations to achieve optimum benefits for the company.
10. Liaise with local farmers and grain merchants, nationally and internationally regarding grain contracts, organic certification and other quality matters.
11. Organise with farmers/grain merchants for contracts for future harvests, organising testing, approval and contract post-harvest.
12. Cover for the supply chain & logistics planner annual leave.
13. Arrange import licences where necessary.
14. Organise the deliveries from origin of ingredients via various modes of transport.
15. Member of TACCP team, reporting internally on potential changes to supply based on availability, price, harvest yield etc.
16. Internal auditing as part of the site team.
17. Manage 1 direct report - a junior buyer.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
EDUCATION
Degree or Equivalent. Desirable - Basic Food Hygiene, CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply), Audit training.
EXPERIENCE
3+ years of purchasing/procurement for an FMCG company. Knowledge of contracting commodities or grain. Supplier relationship and contract management.
SKILLS
Proven negotiation skills. Excellent Microsoft Excel skills. Well organised and structured. Strong influencer. Strong sense of business acumen and analytical skills. Desirable - Multilingual, Experienced in working with MRP systems.
