Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

About The Role

Senior Production Technician (Operations) – BR109

"This is a driving delivery technical liaison role, which manages materials and equipment in the field and drives/liaises/contributes to the technical solutions proposed by Engineering in order to safely deliver field works.

It is a key communication role between Engineering and the General Operatives team, with the technical skills to solve problems in advance of field activities."

Please note the working hours are 07.25 – 17.00, Monday to Thursday, perfect for someone looking for a four-day working week.

We also welcome applications for those looking to develop and therefore may not meet all the essential criteria for the role. In these circumstances there may be a lower grade offered for a development opportunity. The successful candidate would be considered on a case by case basis and supported with a PDP (Personal Development Plan) to enable a clear path for progression into the role.

Technical liaison with Engineering, ensuring the solutions proposed can be implemented by the Programmes/Decommissioning field teams.
Manages the Programmes rigging stores and liaises with designated LOLER compliance insurance Inspector for Statutory Maintenance compliance.
Attends and inputs into planning and Project meetings when required.
Conducts mechanical maintenance routines on Programme equipment including Ultra High Pressure (UHP) cutting machine, Mobile Elevated Working Platforms (MEWPs) – Training to be provided.
Generates Work Requests on Asset Suite 9 – Training to be provided.
Generates Work Order Cards on Asset Suite 9 for SQEP (Suitably Qualified and Experienced Persons) Engineering approval – Training to be provided.
Reviews Work Instructions ensuring the content can be simply conveyed and implemented by the field team.
Has the skills to fabricate and manufacture small scale equipment/tooling to assist with the delivery of decommissioning scope.
Drive and deliver the decommissioning mission, as instructed by your Team Leader.
Maintain the standards required in personal, industrial, radiological, and nuclear safety procedures by ensuring compliance with Site and Control documentation.
Complies with the Health, Safety, Security, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures, work instructions and risk assessments. Support the continuous improvement of Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality on Site.
Actively support and encourage the use of Human Performance Error Prevention Tools.
Complete specialist training / hold authorisations for current and future decommissioning processes identified by the programme to maintain adequate SQEPness (Suitably Qualified and Experienced Persons) for decommissioning activities during the life cycle of the programme.
Gain authorisation for entry to radiologically controlled areas up to and including R4 (Radiological) / C4 (Classification) for decommissioning and compliance activities (must be able to wear a respirator).
Ensure you remain personally SQEP for the role by enrolling on requested Learning Management System (LMS) courses and attending mandatory training within agreed timescales. The training required includes but not limited to being a Classified Worker under the Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRRs), becoming a 'Competent Person' under the Electrical & Mechanical (E&M) Safety Rules and gaining/maintaining the Nuclear Occupational First Aid (NOFA) qualification and associated authorisation.

Assist in the training and development of team members and be trained to be a member of the Programmes & Site rescue team.

Qualifications:

BTEC Level 3 or ONC, NQF level 3 or equivalent in a technical discipline. (Essential)
Working towards NQF level 4/HNC in a technical discipline. (Desirable)

Experience/Knowledge:

Experience in a technical discipline in an industrial environment. (Essential)
Relevant knowledge of industrial safety standards and procedures. (Essential)
Relevant knowledge of radiological and nuclear related plant including relevant safety standards and procedures. (Desirable)
Competent in electrical/mechanical/control & instrumentation (C&I) fault finding to maximise safe working and minimising machinery non availability. (Desirable)

Health and Safety:

There is a requirement to work on a decommissioning nuclear site in radiologically contaminated areas, up to C4 (Classification), R4 (Radiological) conditions, which requires Respiratory Protection Equipment (RPE) to be worn.
The work can be strenuous at times, so a reasonable level of fitness is required.

The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year), and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee's annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.
