About the role
Our Operational Support Officers play a critical role, providing excellent customer service and administrative support to court and tribunal users, judiciary and management. The role is primarily based within the courtroom, supporting the smooth running of court proceedings. Working as part of a team, you will contribute to operational, performance and service standard targets across your area of work.
Responsibilities
* Prepare papers and files for court, tribunals, hearings, and meetings, including processing and handling sensitive information and accurately recording outcomes.
* Create and update digital records, interpreting information required on a court file.
* Communicate with the public, judiciary, court and tribunal users, and representatives of other agencies and organisations.
* Act as the first point of contact for court users, meeting members of the public and, where appropriate, vulnerable witnesses and their legal representatives.
* Prepare court/ hearing rooms and ensure the court runs efficiently.
Working hours & location
Standard full‑time working hours are 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday). Part‑time, flexible and job‑sharing arrangements are considered where they meet the demands of the role and business needs, subject to the MoJ's Flexible Working policy. Successful candidates will be based at one of the following courthouses: Nottingham Combined Court, 60 Canal Street, Nottingham, NG1 7EJ; Nottingham Justice Centre, Carrington Street, Nottingham, NG2 1EE; or Mansfield Combined Court, Rosemary Street, Mansfield, NG19 6EE. There may be occasional work on other courthouses or local HMCTS offices.
Visa & immigration
This role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas in accordance with the current immigration rules. If you have held a Skilled Worker visa before 22 July 2025, eligibility will be assessed against the transitional provisions. Successful applicants must ensure they have and maintain the legal right to live and work in the UK.
