Reporting to: Head of Pastoral/Assistant Headteacher
1. Purpose of the Role
To provide a safe, reliable and professional transport service for students of Sandwell Valley School, ensuring punctual arrival to and from school, supporting educational trips, and contributing to student welfare through Safe and Well visits.
2. Key Responsibilities
Student Transport
* Collect students safely from designated pick-up points each morning and transport them to school.
* Return students home at the end of the school day.
* Maintain punctuality and adhere to agreed routes and schedules.
School Trips and Visits
* Drive the school minibus for trips, educational visits, off-site learning opportunities and other activities during the school day.
* Escort students during trips alongside a teacher or designated staff member, ensuring safety and appropriate supervision at all times.
Safe and Well Visits
* Carry out Safe and Well home visits as directed by school staff.
* Provide courteous and professional communication with parents/carers during home visits.
* Report any concerns immediately in line with safeguarding procedures.
Vehicle Safety and Compliance
* Conduct daily vehicle checks (e.g., fuel, tyres, lights, oil, safety equipment).
* Record checks accurately and report defects promptly.
* Keep the minibus clean, tidy and compliant with legal and school standards.
* Follow all school transport policies, safeguarding expectations and statutory driving regulations.
Administrative Duties
* Maintain records such as mileage logs, journey sheets and maintenance reports as required.
* Assist with general school duties related to transport and student movement if needed.

Person specification:
Essential
· Full, clean UK driving licence.
· Experience driving a minibus or similar large vehicle.
· Willingness to undertake MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training if not already held.
Experience
· Experience driving a minibus or similar large vehicle.
Skills and Knowledge
· Understanding of road safety and vehicle maintenance requirements.
· Ability to manage student behaviour calmly and confidently.
· Strong awareness of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities (training will be provided).
· Good communication skills with students, staff and parents.

Desirable Criteria
· Current MiDAS certificate.
· Previous experience working in a school or with young people.
· First Aid training (or willingness to undertake training).
· Knowledge of the local Sandwell/West Midlands area.
