Learning Coordinator
Roles and Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning
* Organising and implementing an appropriate curriculum and schemes of work for the school, having regard to the needs, experience, interests, aptitudes and stage of development of the pupils and resources available.
* Ensuring that other staff plan and mark work in a timely manner to ensure that all students are
supported, stretched and challenged.
* Keeping under review the work and organisation of the school; evaluating the standards of teaching and learning in the school, and ensuring that proper standards of professional performance and behaviour are established and maintained.
* Ensuring that pupil progress and behaviour is monitored and recorded.
* Supporting and challenging performance to raise standards and to introduce and monitor the
self-evaluation process.
* Ensuring that all records e.g. academic and pastoral are maintained according to school policy.
* Making arrangements for parents to be given regular information about the school curriculum,
the progress of their children including meetings and written reports and other matters affecting the school.
* Ensuring the implementation of all school policies approved by the Board of Governors.
* Taking responsibility for good order and discipline on the school premises whenever pupils are present, including break, lunchtime and before and after school by overseeing the Merit/Demerit systems and other strategies to encourage positive behaviour.
* Promoting and monitoring the pastoral provision of the school, ensuring that student motivation is high and using praise and reward to motivate pupils.
* Coordinate the Extended curriculum (extra-curricular) provision within the school.
Staff Management
* Deploying and managing all teaching and staff of the school and allocating duties to them.
* Managing the day to day running of the school, including organising regular staff meetings.
* Ensuring that staff and volunteers receive information they need to complete tasks assigned effectively.
* Providing information to the Board of Governors about the work and performance of the staff employed at the school and participating in staff appraisals.
* Ensuring that all staff in the school have access to advice and relevant training appropriate to their needs, in accordance with the policies of the Education Authority for the development and training of staff.
* To ensure that volunteers receive appropriate support and guidance and are aware of award systems to promote positive behaviour.
Resource Management
* Advising and assisting the Board of Governors in the exercise of their functions, including attending meetings of the Board when requested and providing written updates.
* Maintaining liaison with other schools and institutions as appropriate.
* Allocating, controlling and accounting for financial and material resources of the school.
* Reordering resources/materials as required as approved by the Governors.
* Making arrangements in co-operation with the Governors for the safety, security and effective
supervision of the school buildings and their contents and of the school grounds; and ensuring
(if so required) that any lack of maintenance is promptly reported to the Board of Governors.
* Participating in staff development.
* Participating in the identification of areas in which he/she would benefit from further training and
undergoing such training.
* Ensuring that cover work is set for any period of absence of any member of staff.
* Establishing and maintaining appropriate structures and systems.
* Developing, leading and implementing the School Development Plan.
* Managing resources efficiently and effectively: human, physical and financial.
Ensuring Accountability
* Creating and developing a culture in which all staff recognise that they are accountable for the success of the School.
* Combining the outcomes of regular self-evaluation, inspection evidence and other external evaluations in ensure the continuous improvement of the school.
* Leading and managing the process of monitoring and evaluating effectively school outcomes, policies, staff performance and procedures.
* Working with the Governors to recognise and disseminate effective practice and challenge and address unacceptable performance.
* Working closely with and providing effective reports to Governors on the school’s progress and
development.
Developing the School with responsibility to:
* Promote effective relationships with persons and bodies outside the school as may be approved
by the Board of Governors.
* Lead and manage the development and promotion of a positive image of the school within the local community and beyond.
* Develop and maintain strong and effective relationships with parents and the local and wider community.
* Ensure effective channels of communication are in place between the school and the local and wider community.
* Liaise with other relevant statutory and voluntary agencies to enhance the education of all pupils.
* Model the values and ethos of the school, providing a positive role model of behaviour, attendance, preparation and enthusiasm for learning.
* Promote and monitor the achievement of the aims of the school.
* Complete all other reasonable tasks as agreed with the Board of Governors.
