Collaborating with MI5 and MI6, we protect the UK from terrorism, cyber-attacks, and espionage. Working at GCHQ offers diverse and fascinating tasks in a supportive, inclusive environment emphasizing teamwork.
The Role
Our infrastructure supports the systems that ensure the UK's safety and security. As a subject matter expert (SME), your experience with mechanical and electrical systems will ensure compliance with technical standards. You will oversee our estate, working independently, with other SMEs, or with the Technical Assurance team.
You may review new building designs or analyze infrastructure issues, leveraging your knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems to provide technical solutions. The varied projects mean each day offers new challenges, contributing significantly to our mission.
You might also take on line management responsibilities for a small team, guiding and supporting team members. Extended hours may occasionally be required, compensated through overtime. Some travel within the UK and limited overseas travel should be expected.
About You
Essentially, you should have a good working knowledge of mechanical and electrical (M&E) building systems like HVAC and HV/LV distribution systems. Ideally, you are an SME in your current role with relevant qualifications such as AP electrical or mechanical. Training will be provided to reach the necessary level, and relevant experience or qualifications like Test and Inspection of Electrical Installations (City & Guilds) or equivalent facilities management qualifications are considered.
You should have practical experience in maintaining, installing, and assuring M&E building systems, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a methodical approach. Experience leading small teams is advantageous.
A full UK driving license is required.

New employees will undergo an induction and be assigned a buddy. Additional training and professional development opportunities will be available, including support for obtaining relevant qualifications.
