Job Overview
As the Assistant Nurse, you will assist the Head Nurse in providing comprehensive medical support aligned with the Schools Medical Care Policy. Your role will promote student wellbeing, manage health-related issues, and ensure smooth operation of the Schools Health Centre.
Main Responsibilities
* Assist the Head Nurse in assessing student health needs and delivering appropriate treatment.
* Administer medication as prescribed, following established protocols.
* Perform triage to determine the urgency and nature of medical needs.
* Maintain the sick bay: cleanliness, bed changing, arranging meals and drinks for unwell students.
* Participate in on‑call rota and cover for the Head Nurse during leave.
* Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
* Order, stock, and safely store medication in compliance with regulations.
* Monitor and maintain medical supplies and equipment.
* Assist with data entry and record‑keeping as required.
* Respond promptly to telephone, email, and other communications from staff, students, doctors' surgeries, and external agencies.
* Arrange and accompany students (under 16) to doctors, dental, and optician appointments.
* Uphold safeguarding policies, treat students with dignity and respect, and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Relevant healthcare qualification equivalent to Band 5 Nurse or NVQ Level 4, or currently working toward it.
* Training in First Aid, Opus Online Medical Training, and Health Training.
* Demonstrated experience in a healthcare or medical support role.
* Strong IT skills, including proficiency with medical record systems.
