Healthcare Support Worker - Medical Assessment Unit (MAU)

The closing date is 06 July 2025

We are seeking a Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) to commence on Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) within in the Division of Medicine.

Main duties of the job

Function as a team member of the Multidisciplinary Team by assisting the Registered Nurse in the delivery of effective high quality patient care. All work undertaken by the post holder will be under direct supervision of the Registered Nurse.

Job responsibilities

* Assist patients with the provision of washing, dressing, personal care, beverages and/or meals.
* Assist qualified nursing and medical staff where requested.
* Communicate with all members of the team to maintain a good service provision.
* Ensure that all patients are able to meet their hygiene needs, providing a level of assistance appropriate to the individual.
* Prepare and support the patient appropriately during any activity that is to be undertaken.
* Alert the registered nurse where you notice any changes in the patients health and well-being or any possible risks.
* Ensure effective use of material resources/supplies within the ward/unit in consultation with senior staff.
* Assist with the general cleaning and re-stocking of resources where appropriate as well as cleaning and preparing patients beds.
* Contribute to own personal development and take an active part in learning opportunities. Work Circumstances & on-call
* Shifts of 6 or 12 hours to include nights and weekends. Rosters are planned and released six weeks in advance.


Person Specification


Addtional

* Flexible and able to work on any ward and site within the Trust
* Ability to work internal rotational shifts
* Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation


Knowledge

* An interest in healthcare services
* Knowledge of individualised patient care delivery


Skills

* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Able to demonstrate a positive attitude and caring demeanour
* Ability to challenge unacceptable behaviour


Experience

* Previous experience of working within a care environment.
* Previous experience working in a hospital setting.


Qualifications

* Evidence of basic level qualification in English and Maths or able to demonstrate equivalent experience
* Blood sampling
* NVQ II in a healthcare subject or equivalent
