Training & Shift Hours
12 weeks training, the first few weeks you will work Monday‑Friday at 9:00‑17:00. Thereafter, training will continue during your regular shift hours which will be alternating weeks with one week on 7am until 3pm then the following week on 12noon until 8pm.
Key Responsibilities
* Process a highly regulated end‑to‑end sterilisation/decontamination process on surgical instruments that have been used in operations in local NHS and private hospitals, to ensure they can be used again safely for the next patient.
* Ensure the effective preparation of sterile consumables (dressings, linen, surgical instruments, and equipment) by the process of decontamination, inspection, assembly and packing within predefined quality standards.
* Rigorously check, wash, lay up and pack sets of theatre instruments to meet contract specifications within predefined quality standards.
* Safely operate and monitor machines and equipment (washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic and sterilisers) effectively.
* Record and log repairs and missing instruments or equipment on the Tracking and Traceability computer system (SynergyTrak).
* Return repaired instruments or equipment to stock or the appropriate coded sets or the Trust's appointed person.

Apprenticeship Opportunity
Access to a Level 2 Healthcare Science Assistant Apprenticeship. This is a 12‑15 month fully funded programme studying good scientific practice for the healthcare profession. It is universally applicable outside of STERIS. You are given 20% of your working hours to study towards the qualification. Further apprenticeships are available throughout the course of your career.
