Overview
Buyer – Peterlee. £35.50 ph FCSA Umbrella (This role is deemed Inside IR35) or £26.00 paye. Fully office based role – 5 days per week in Peterlee. Hybrid working available, with requirement to be on site some days on a week‑to‑week basis.
Our Peterlee based client is looking for applications from commodity purchasing specialists who can optimise, streamline and improve bought products for their manufacturing shopfloor. The client has a focus on category buying within manufacturing, including components such as manufactured steel fabrications, welded assemblies / sub‑assemblies, and non‑metallic components for manufacturing. Experience within Aerospace, Automotive or similar high‑value manufactured machinery/vehicle industries is desirable.
Responsibilities
* Manage supply network procurement related activities to deliver procurement excellence and integration between Suppliers & internal customers.
* Demonstrate leadership in recognising potential for cost and inventory reductions, quality improvements, and soundness of business proposals and risk assessment.
* Provide supply network solutions using Quality, Cost, Logistics, and Development Management (QCLDM) to deliver maximum value.
* Understand current performance of the supply network, evaluate strategic options, decide a course of action, and begin implementation.
* Lead or participate in Cost Reduction Projects, with strong knowledge of complex manufactured products, NPI, facility, manufacturing, supply chain and category strategies.
* Collaborate with suppliers, customers and internal teams to achieve effective solutions.
Qualifications / Experience
* Commercial purchasing experience as a Buyer of relevant products or processes (e.g., Manufactured Steel Fabrications, Manufactured Welding Assemblies / Sub‑Assemblies, Harnesses or Complex Cable Assemblies, Non‑metallic Components for Manufacturing).
* Category management experience is highly relevant; experience within one of the category requirements is preferred.
* Cost reduction experience through negotiation/ design is highly desirable and essentially essential.
* Education: degree, CIPS, apprenticeship with HNC, extensive on‑the‑job experience.
* Experience in purchasing, logistics, manufacturing, and/or engineering is preferred.
* Well‑developed interpersonal and communication skills; able to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, and reach consensus on actions.
* Experience leading teams, suppliers and customers to effective solutions. Analytical, problem solving and project leadership skills. Previous 6 Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt experience is preferred.
* Experience with cross‑functional collaboration in complex supply chains is beneficial.

* Location: Peterlee (onsite requirement; hybrid work available).
* Rate: £35.50 per hour (FCSA Umbrella) or £26.00 per hour (PAYE).
