Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse to join the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) at Charing Cross Hospital. This role is a 6 month fixed term secondment to cover maternity leave.

As a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse you will be part of the ward leadership team and will lead, support and grow a team of nurses & HCAs to deliver excellent care for patients experiencing stroke. You will represent the Imperial stroke service and deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence.

Main duties of the job

6. The assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for adults in their care.
7. The post holder will use specialist knowledge and competence gained through post registration courses in caring for adults.
8. Will be expected to supervise junior staff and to teach qualified and unqualified staff.
9. In the absence of the Ward Manager, the post holder will be responsible for the safe running of the ward on a shift by shift basis and will act as a deputy representing the Ward Manager in their absence.
10. Support the Ward Manager to deliver safe and effective care, ensuring adequate staffing levels including skill mix and patient ratios.
11. Support the flow of patients through the stroke pathway, promoting efficiency with 4 hour DTA and SSNAP targets and liaising with referring hospitals to repatriate patients to their local SU within agreed timeframes.
12. Contribute to ward development plans, including participation in ward accreditation and Pathway to Excellence activities.

13. NMC Registered General Nurse.

14. Relevant specialist course or equivalent experience.
