NES Fircroft are recruiting for a Site EHS Advisor for a global energy technology client working on major substation and grid upgrade projects across the UK.


Site EHS Advisor

Location: Edinburgh

Duration: 12 months

Outside IR35


Role

The Site EHS Advisor provides operational EHS support to the Site Manager and the site organization. They act as an EHS champion for zero harm, environmental protection, sustainability, and wellbeing.


Key Responsibilities & Duties

* Accept the role and lead EHS activities, championing zero harm, environment, sustainable future and wellbeing.
* Dispatch Phase
o Verify hazardous substances and chemicals are stored appropriately.
o Ensure chemical assessments are available at the point of storage.
* Construction / Installation / Commissioning Phases
o Site Inspection – ensure all required notices are posted, initiate fire risk assessments, obtain missing or ad‑hoc EHS equipment.
o Site Mobilisation – ensure the Construction Phase Plan, TMP, ERP, RAMS/Permits are available, set up EHS project folders, establish EHS Safety Representatives and publish and upload minutes.
o Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) – ensure all personnel have read and signed relevant documentation, identify non‑routine tasks, provide technical EHS comments on contractor risk assessments and method statements.
o EHS Site Registrations / Inductions – ensure induction processes are followed, all inductions completed before work begins, control, issue and track visitor PPE, maintain EHS folders.
o Competencies & Training – verify certifications, deliver site inductions, project‑specific EHS training and toolbox talks.
o Site Rules – set up and operate project initiatives and programmes, monitor compliance and report non‑conformance.
o Communications – implement safety communications, organise monthly Safety Representative forums, roll out general safety campaigns.
o EHS Management of Subcontractors – monitor work against accepted RAMS, report non‑compliance to Site Management or EHS leadership.
o Monitoring and Assessment – conduct routine and non‑routine inspections, record outputs, report unsafe acts or conditions in reporting tools.
o Safety Observations & Incident Management – review observations and incidents, enter them into reporting tools.
o Investigations – gather information for accidents, complete initial risk assessments, escalated incidents, root‑cause investigations, complete reporting workflows, provide corrective action feedback.
o Emergency Response Arrangements – display plan details, communicate contacts during induction, facilitate drills, monitor emergency equipment.
o Reporting – develop and issue weekly EHS site reports, notify incidents to PM, SM and Client per requirements.
o EHS Documentation Records – compile and archive documentation.
o Project Closure – finalise archiving, close incident management workflows.
* Authority
o Empowered to stop work immediately if unsafe acts, conditions or procedural failings are identified.
* Technical Competence
o Detailed knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation for large construction projects.
o Experience implementing EHS arrangements for Principal Contractor roles under CDM.
* Competence Requirements
o Mandatory

o Optional
+ SF6 Gas awareness
* Additional Requirements
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
o IT literacy (MS Office).
* Compliance Responsibilities
o Ensure personal and team safety in accordance with EHS policy.
o Safeguard customer information and access it only when required.
o Understand and comply with regulatory, fair trading, competition, data protection, anti‑corruption rules.
o Adhere to Management Standards where applicable.
