Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking an exceptional Deputy General Manager to support and drive the strategic and operational objectives of our Medicine Division.
This pivotal senior management role offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with the Divisional Director, Assistant Divisional Directors, Clinical Directors, General Manager, Divisional Nurse, and wider team.
The post holder will provide expert management support and operational leadership, ensuring the highest standards in patient flow and care delivery across divisional areas.
Main duties of the job
* Provide leadership and direction across the Division to ensure clear communication and robust delivery of objectives, policies, and targets, working collaboratively across departments such as Urgent Care/Surgery, Facilities, Clinical Support Services, and corporate teams.
* Support and deputise for the General Manager
* Oversee the management of divisional performance, delivering national and local targets, driving improvement plans, and innovating care models within resources.
* Ensure effective management of delegated divisional budgets (c. £20 million) and resources in line with governance policies and financial instructions.
* Implement HR and governance strategies to ensure compliance with policies, best practices, and legislation.
* Lead responses to complaints, incidents, and adverse events, embedding quality improvement and risk reduction strategies.
* Promote continuous improvement, professional excellence, and patient-centred care within multidisciplinary teams.
* Present complex or sensitive information to senior colleagues, management, stakeholders, and external partners, demonstrating advanced communication and negotiation skills.
* Support the General Manager in ensuring effective patient flow and safe care pathways, including out-of-hours and on-call rota participation as required.

Essential criteria
* Proven senior management experience, ideally within healthcare or NHS settings
