Advanced Clinical Pharmacist – Emergency Department
We are seeking an advanced clinical pharmacist to join the Emergency Department Pharmacy team at Whiston Hospital, Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide advanced clinical pharmacy service to ED patients, including drug histories and medication reviews.
* Participate in consultant ward rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, and pharmacy on‑call rota.
* Develop evidence‑based prescribing guidance, therapeutic drug monitoring and formulary updates.
* Educate patients and staff on drug therapy, provide specialist pharmaceutical information.
* Supervise and train junior pharmacists, contribute to clinical audit and research.
* Ensure compliance with statutory and Trust policies, including the Medicines Act and Misuse of Drugs Act.
Qualifications
* Vocational master’s degree in pharmacy or equivalent.
* Post‑graduate diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy.
* Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* Non‑medical prescribing qualification or working towards completion.
* Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development.
Essential Experience
* Extensive experience of providing clinical pharmacy services to acute hospital specialties.
* In‑depth clinical knowledge of management of patients within the specified department.
* Experience of working in a busy dispensary environment and drug reporting.
* Experience of clinical audit and practice research.
Desirable
* Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
* Experience of electronic prescribing and pharmacy computer systems.
* Leading and supervising audit or practice research projects.
Other
Fixed‑term, 12‑month contract, full‑time, band 8a salary £55 690‑£62 682 per annum pro rata.
Working pattern: full‑time with rostered weekend, late‑night and on‑call duties.
Location: Whiston Hospital, L35 5DR.
