Technical Manager

Hot Water Comedy Club is a multi-award-winning live comedy venue based inside Liverpool’s newest destination, Blackstock Market. We host live comedy up to five nights a week and have been named Best Club and Best Venue, although we try not to brag.
We are now looking for an experienced Technical Manager to join our growing team. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced live entertainment environment, ideal for someone who thrives under pressure, loves live events, and has strong technical and customer-facing skills.
The Role
You will be responsible for ensuring our shows run smoothly, safely and to a consistently high technical standard. Working closely with performers, production teams and front-of-house staff, you will oversee show operations across multiple performance spaces, from technical planning through to live delivery.
Strong organisation, attention to detail and calm decision-making are essential. Comedy moves fast and timing is everything.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the technical planning and delivery of a high-volume comedy, music and live events programme
* Oversee all audio, lighting, video and staging operations across multiple spaces
* Act as the main technical contact for visiting performers, agents and touring production teams
* Advance technical requirements and translate briefs into practical, deliverable plans
* Manage load-ins, setups, changeovers, live operation and load-outs
* Supervise and coordinate the in-house technical team during live events
* Train and mentor staff to maintain consistent working practices
* Ensure all technical equipment is maintained, fault-free and show-ready
* Implement and monitor safe systems of work and Health & Safety compliance
* Remain calm under pressure while balancing competing priorities during live shows
* Programme music and live events across all venue spaces
* Work closely with venue management and operations teams to enhance the audience experience
Required Experience
* Degree in Audio Engineering, Lighting Production or a related field
* Proven experience in a live or broadcast environment
* Strong working knowledge of Midas digital desks, OBS, buses and routing
* Experience with Dante systems
* Experience mixing sound for a variety of bands
* Excellent communication and customer service skills
* Solid understanding of Health and Safety requirements in live venues
* Ability to problem-solve effectively under pressure
Working Requirements

* Availability to work evenings and weekends
Desirable Experience
* Dante Level 1 Certification
* Knowledge of QuickQ and MagicQ
* Video editing experience
* Previous experience working in hospitality
