Retired clergy remain a huge asset in the Diocese of Chichester, being present in parishes preaching, leading, taking special services, serving and supporting our communities in all kinds of ways.

We wish to appoint a Bishop’s Chaplain for Retired Clergy and their Households to provide pastoral and spiritual care, and support and advice to retired clergy and their households and those preparing for retirement.

This part time role is offered at 7.5 hours per week and could be combined with another position by someone either lay or ordained.

The Principal Duties Include


* Providing pastoral and spiritual care to retired clergy and their households and clergy widows/widowers.
* Offering advice, training and courses to clergy approaching and preparing for retirement
* Giving support and advice to retired clergy and their families and clergy widows/widowers on matters such as finance, housing, residential care and funerals
* Organising a one-day annual conference for retired clergy


Our ideal candidate will be and offer:
* Experience of providing advice and support in a community-based setting
* A good understanding of the challenges faced by retiring and retired clergy and their families and of Church of England structures
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build good working relationships with a wide range of people
* The ability to work independently and on your own initiative

What We Offer

* A salary of £7,570 per annum (pro-rata £37,850) for 7.5 hours work per week.
* Enrolment into the Diocesan Pension Scheme with a 15.1% employer contribution
* A 0.2 pro rata entitlement of 28 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays and an additional 2 privilege days leave per year
* Free parking at Church House, use of the ride to work scheme and free eye tests
* The role is based at Church House, Hove with the opportunity to apply to use the DBF’s remote working policy to work from home for part of the week.
