Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency
Senior Electrical Engineer role in the Standards and Engineering team of the Environment Agency. This role focuses on high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment, control system design, and SCADA/telemetry systems.
Job Description
As part of the Technical Authority you will provide technical engineering leadership and support to the organisation, helping to deliver safe, reliable and sustainable assets and meet net‑zero commitments. You will manage and maintain electrical engineering standards, electrical safety rules, and competency guidance for all employees working on electrical systems and equipment, including HV and LV power systems, control systems, pumping stations, water management, flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
You will also be responsible for a national incident response role, which may occur outside normal working hours.
Responsibilities
• Provide technical leadership and support across the organisation. • Develop, deliver, and maintain electrical engineering standards and policy. • Provide competency guidance and training for employees working on electrical systems. • Participate in national incident response and support activities. • Champion diversity and inclusion within the Workforce.
Qualifications and Experience
* Good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Strong background in control systems and telemetry/SCADA, applying IEC 61508, IEC 62061, and BS EN 13489.
* Experience with high‑ and low‑voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Developed and delivered safe systems of work, risk assessments, and method statements.
* Proficient in testing and isolation of high‑ and low‑voltage electrical systems.
* Risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance, including failure‑mode analysis and reliability systems.
* Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions, and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
