To support the senior sister and matron in the delivery of the highest standard and quality of care to patients attending the department. This role will involve assisting in the management, supervision and co-ordination of nursing activity with the department, ensuring standards are monitored and maintained and where necessary taking the appropriate corrective action.
The role demands a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in the departments to whom staff, patients and their families can turn to for assistance, advice and support.
Main duties of the job
1. To manage the day to day running of the department supported by the Outpatient senior team and Matron.
2. To perform as trainer, assessor, mentor and supervisor for nursing staff as required for safe and effective delivery of treatments.
3. To assist in the preparations and running of clinics.
4. To investigate and assist in the response to formal complaints and incidents.
5. To assist in the monitoring of attendance for all staff, monitor staff sickness and staff returns to work after absence.
6. To be responsible for co-ordinating and monitoring duty rosters, ensuring adequate skill mix to ensure appropriate support for clinical activity.

Where there is potential, the secondment/fixed term contract may finish early, or in the first instance, the secondment/fixed term contract may be extended due to the internal/external secondment of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and secondments in relation to the substantive post holder. Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
7. RGN Level one NMC
8. Evidence of post basic continuous professional development
9. First degree or evidence of working towards one (demonstrating graduate attributes)
10. To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
Experience
Essential criteria
11. Relevant experience at AFC Band 5 in a cardiac critical care setting
12. Ability to lead, motivate and develop a professional team
13. Working towards completion of recognised accredited ICU course modules
14. Completion of Band 5 clinical competencies
15. Working towards completion of Band 5/6 advanced clinical and management competencies
Desirable criteria
16. Ward / Unit level managerial experience – co-ordinator role
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
17. Evidence of relevant post basic training and continuous professional development
18. Ability to communicate effectively including active listening, writing, and verbally, with individuals on a one-to-one basis, with groups, and the Multidisciplinary Team
