Policy opportunities at the Department for Transport - Department for Transport Careers This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to join the team as Joint Head of Accessible Travel Governance working alongside a job share partner. The role brings together strategic leadership and sponsorship of the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC) Secretariat - supporting the Department’s statutory advisory body on accessible transport - with responsibility for overseeing the governance, management, and strategic direction of the Department’s support for mobility centres. You will work closely with ministers, senior officials, and external stakeholders including the DVLA, Driving Mobility, and individual mobility centres, to shape inclusive transport policy, provide robust governance and effective oversight of funding, performance, and service delivery. Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to: Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the DPTAC Secretariat, ensuring an effective, well-organised programme of Main Committee and sub-committee meetings. Shape and maintain a coherent forward work programme for DPTAC that reflects ministerial priorities, emerging policy areas, and departmental objectives. Support the DPTAC Chair to run effective meetings, ensuring high-quality agendas and papers and clear tracking of actions and follow-up. Strengthen engagement between DPTAC, ministers, officials and wider government so advice is timely, visible and influential. Oversee the Department’s support for mobility centres, including governance, funding administration, and performance monitoring. Build effective working relationships with DVLA, Driving Mobility and individual mobility centres to support joined-up service delivery and continuous improvement. Lead development and implementation of a sustainable operating model for the Department’s interaction with mobility centres, ensuring value for money and efficient use of public funds. Line manage SEO and HEO staff within the division’s matrix structure, fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture and providing resilience support across the ACT Division. You will manage a small team. Great line management is important to us as an organisation, and we will equip and support line managers to develop the skills they need.
