This General Paediatric consultant post combines acute general Paediatric, Neonatal and outpatient work.
The post contributes to the resident on call tier 2 and non‑resident tier 3 on call cover. The post‑holder will join a department of established consultants contributing to a well‑embedded consultant of the week system. The team has a variety of complementary special interests, with close integration between St Richards and Worthing sites and post‑merger cross‑site integration with Brighton.
The successful candidate will join a team that has a highly engaged workforce with a strong track record of quality and safety.
Main duties of the job
* Consultant of the week. Monday – Friday, 09:00 – 17:00, with a frequency of 1:11 weeks. The Consultant will lead the multidisciplinary team to provide care for General Paediatric inpatients on Bluefin ward, the CYPDU, and on the level 1 Neonatal unit. The Consultant will carry the crash bleep and attend medical emergencies within the Paediatric & Neonatal wards, labour ward and ED as required.
* Resident on‑call working. The post holder will work a total of 26 tier 2 resident night shifts per year on weekday Monday/Tuesday nights, with the remainder of that week as off days. These shifts are supported by a resident tier 1 doctor and a non‑resident consultant on‑call.
* Undertake General Paediatric outpatient clinics. Face‑to‑face clinics run for 3 hours with the remaining hour for clinic‑related admin.
* CYPDU support. The post holder will provide senior cover to the children’s assessment unit, including senior review and decision making, and an opportunity for bedside teaching of junior doctors and medical students.
* On Call Commitment: The post holder will work the equivalent of a 50% FTE slot on the non‑resident on call rota. This currently equates to 1:16 for weekdays Monday to Friday and 1:10 for weekends, category A immediate return, and currently attracts 0.8 PA for predictable on call plus 3% on call supplement.
