Technical Sales Engineer
Role Purpose
SF Engineering has been delivering innovative food processing solutions to the FMCG industry for over 40 years. We are currently in an exciting phase of growth, expanding into new markets and evolving our offering towards full turnkey solutions. The Technical Sales Engineer will provide technical and application support to the Sales team, ensuring optimal, compliant, and commercially sound solutions are proposed to customers. This role is central to converting opportunities into successful projects through high-quality technical input, accurate costings, and professional proposal delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for food processing and engineering solutions
* Create, review, and deliver compliant technical and commercial proposals within defined deadlines
* Prepare and present bid proposals, quotations, and contract documentation to clients
* Ensure all proposals meet company standards for quality, accuracy, and presentation
* Review commercial aspects of bids to ensure all scope, products, and services are fully captured in pricing
* Provide technical sales and application support throughout the entire bid and sales process
* Support customer visits, site surveys, and technical discussions as part of proposal development
* Assist the Sales team in managing the full sales cycle, from prospecting through to deal closure
* Promote and sell technical solutions into the food processing, packaging, and wider industrial markets across the UK and Ireland
* Liaise with engineering, project management, procurement, and suppliers to gather technical and commercial inputs
* Prepare clear handover documentation for Project Managers following successful bid awards
* Follow and support internal processes for costings, proposals, and approvals
* Promote best practice in proposal structure, clarity, and technical accuracy
* Support continuous improvement of proposal tools, templates, and sales processes
* Produce drawings utilising AutoCAD
What We’re Looking For
* 3+ years’ experience in a similar Technical Sales Engineer, Applications Engineer, or Technical Sales role
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Food, or similar)
* Strong experience in cost estimation methods and best practices
* Background in the FMCG, food, beverage, or process industries is highly desirable
* Ability to read, interpret, and produce drawings using AutoCAD, experience with SolidWorks is desirable
* Confident user of Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce technical specifications and quotations
* Proven ability to identify, develop, and convert sales opportunities
* Customer-focused mindset with strong relationship-building skills
* Highly organised, methodical, and detail-oriented
* Comfortable working under pressure to tight deadlines while managing multiple priorities
* Proactive attitude with a desire to continuously learn, develop, and improve
