The Position
At Roche/Genentech Pharma Product Development Global Clinical Operations (PDG), we are determined to transform drug development and realize our Pharma Ambition to deliver 20 transformative medicines addressing diseases with the highest societal burden by 2029. We are looking for a Business Manager to be a strategic and operational partner to the PDG Leadership Team (LT) within PDG.
PD's mission is to improve patients' lives around the world through unique medicines that have a meaningful impact. Cross functionally we conduct global clinical trials, analyze results, monitor safety, and work with regulatory authorities to provide truly differentiated medicines to patients. Our primary disease focus areas are Oncology, Hematology, Neurology, Immunology, Ophthalmology, Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolism (CVRM). The Opportunity
A Business Manager (BM) in PDG is responsible for partnering and facilitating the leadership team(s) in designing the organizational strategy specific to their function to achieve the Roche Pharma, PD, and PDG goals or ambitions. The BM acts as a strategic thought partner, ensuring that functional goals align with broader PDG and Pharma strategies while driving operational excellence and team health.
As a PDG Business Manager your key responsibilities include:
Strategic Thought Partnership & Project Leadership
Strategic Planning: Formulate and refine annual function-specific outcomes and priorities, ensuring alignment with the PDG and overall business objectives.
Insight & Recommendations: Provide data-driven insights and alternative perspectives to the functional leadership team to enhance decision-making and support business priorities.
Special Projects: Lead the development, execution, and sustainment of special projects critical to the function's success (e.g., process improvements or organizational evolution).
Performance Tracking: Track and report progress on specific objectives, collaborating with key business partners as applicable.
Demonstrates strategic agility and a commitment to achieving excellence through teamwork and collaboration.
Leadership Team Management & Operations
Agenda & Meeting Management: Design and facilitate leadership team agendas that balance business needs with people-focused priorities.
Operational Cadence: Oversee the cadence of function specific meetings, including regular LT sessions, F2F meetings, operational reviews, town halls, etc, ensuring clear outcomes and action items.
Team Health: Proactively monitor team dynamics and health; identify challenges and leverage Roche resources (e.g., coaching) to maintain a high-performing LT.
Compliance & Integrity: Maintain high ethical standards, handling sensitive and confidential information with the utmost integrity.
Models the Roche Operating Principles and Values: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
Communication Strategy: Develop and maintain the functional communication plan, ensuring transparent and consistent messaging across all levels.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with the PDG Chief of Staff, Global Site Heads, and business partners (Finance, HR, IT, Procurement) to align corporate planning processes.
Community Leadership: Actively participate in the PDG Business Manager community to share best practices and ensure enterprise-wide alignment.
Who you are:
Advanced degree in life sciences or equivalent (MBA preferred, or equivalent relevant experience).
Industry Experience: 10+ years of multidisciplinary experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or a related regulated industry, with a focus on clinical and drug development.
Project Management: Proven track record in large-scale project management and the ability to organize and execute complex action plans.
Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to see the "big picture," connect dots across functions, and translate complex strategy into simple action plans.
Communication Skills: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and facilitate high-level discussions.
Systems Thinking: Ability to navigate a fast-paced matrixed environment and understand the interdependencies of complex global systems.
Change Management: Experience in leading and driving organizational change initiatives.
Monitor Team Forming and ongoing Team Health, to proactively identify challenges or potential team dynamics and leverage Roche resources (eg coaching) as needed.
Frequent national or international travel will be required at times. The amount may vary with the role, location, and business needs
This position will be located at the South San Francisco, United States or Welwyn, England HQ sites. Expectation of ongoing and sustained campus presence at the site in compliance with local requirements. You model the Roche Operating Principles

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $131,100 - $252,700. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
