Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist - Patient At Risk & Resus Team

The post will incorporate the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role dimensions of expertclinical practice, education, leadership, management and research.The Patient at Risk & Resuscitation Team (PARRT) operates twenty four hours a dayseven days a week and has three main clinical functions. The first is to provide apatient at risk service, where an early warning system prompts referral following patientdeterioration. PARRT members then review the patient. The second is to follow up allpatients following discharge from critical care to the wards, with focus on complexrehabilitation needs. This includes being clinical lead for therapies such as CPAP andtracheostomy care in non-critical care settings. The third is to respond to all emergencycalls, such as trauma calls and 2222 medical emergency calls. The primary aim of thePARRT is to provide timely intervention in order to prevent a patients' conditiondeteriorating, and to respond proactively where such deterioration is evident.


Main duties of the job

This dynamic team attends all adult, paediatric and obstetric emergency calls, providing immediate support to patients and clinical teams. The team receives referrals for deteriorating patients or those at risk from a variety of sources, and reviews all discharges from the intensive care unit. As well as providing hands-on clinical care, the team work with the wider multi-disciplinary team, with a focus on advanced care planning.

Along with this the team is responsible for delivering education to Trust staff on all aspects of deteriorating patient care, from initial assessment to advanced resuscitation. Through collaboration with clinicians and other colleagues, we strive to deliver and promote patient safety.

The role also involves quality improvement and engaging in developments related to identifying and responding to deteriorating patients, such as using the streams app to respond to patients who develop acute kidney injury.

The successful candidate should demonstrate the Trust values, have proven experience of working with acutely unwell patients and have the necessary attitude and communication skills to work well in challenging situations. Flexibility, the ability to reflect and resilience are also desirable qualities.

Applicants who do not display good understanding of the role are very unlikely to be shortlisted.
