A fast-growing, well-funded start-up is seeking a Head of Accounts Payable to build and lead its Accounts Payable and Employee Expenses function. This is a rare opportunity to shape processes, systems, and strategy in a clean-slate environment, reporting into the Head of Finance and working closely with cross-functional teams. The successful candidate will be joining at a pivotal time and will play a critical role in laying the operational foundations to support scale, efficiency, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
The Head of Accounts Payable will be responsible for establishing and managing the full accounts payable and employee expense reimbursement function. This includes processing invoices (very low volumes), designing and implementing processes, controls, and reporting structures from scratch, and ensuring all systems are aligned with the business needs. The individual will also collaborate with IT and other stakeholders to implement and optimise the Workday finance system for both accounts payable and expense management workflows.
In this role, the successful candidate will be involved in invoice processing, payment approvals, and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards. They will manage vendor relationships, resolve discrepancies efficiently, and ensure timely payment cycles to support healthy cash flow management. Employee expense reimbursement processes will also fall under this remit, including policy enforcement and alignment with tax and regulatory requirements.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a hands-on AP professional with a strong background in leading accounts payable and expense functions, ideally within a high-growth or start-up environment. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in building financial operations from the ground up, with a proven ability to establish scalable systems and high-performing teams. Experience with implementing finance and ERP systems is essential, and prior knowledge of Workday is highly desirable.
