The Opportunity
An established and growing engineering organisation operating within the water and infrastructure sector is seeking to appoint a Senior Sales Manager to support continued expansion and strengthen itsmercial capability. This is a newly created position offering the opportunity to play a key role in driving revenue, managingplex tenders, and supporting strategic growth, while also leading a small team.
The Role
This is a senior, hands-on sales andmercial role responsible for managing the full tendering and sales lifecycle, from initial enquiry through to quotation, negotiation, and conversion.You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensuremercially viable and technically accurate proposals, while also contributing to business development strategy and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Tendering & Sales Delivery
Review and assess iing tender opportunitiesInterpret technical specifications and design drawingsPrepare detailed and accurate costings for projects ranging from £100k – £2 millionProduce clear,pelling, andpetitive quotationsManage submissions and follow-up activity to maximise conversion rates Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Liaise directly with clients to clarify project scope and requirementsBuild and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholdersConduct proactive follow-up on submitted quotations and ongoing opportunitiesmercial & Supply Chain Management
Obtain and evaluate pricing from subcontractors and suppliersEnsure all proposals aremercially viable and aligned to project scopeIdentify risks and opportunities within project pricing CRM & Sales Operations
Maintain accurate records of enquiries, quotations, and pipeline activity using CRM systemsTrack performance, conversion rates, and pipeline progressionEnsure high standards of reporting and data accuracy Leadership & Team Support
Provide leadership and guidance to a small team (typically up to 3 individuals)Support the development of team capability across sales, estimating, and administrative functionsFoster a collaborative, team-oriented working environment Business Development
Support wider business development activity and growth initiativesIdentify new market opportunities and contribute to strategic planningContinuously improve sales processes and operational efficiencyAbout You
Experience
Proven background in sales, estimating, ormercial roles within engineering, construction, or utilitiesExperience managing tenders, quotations, or bid processesExposure to projects within the £100k – £2m rangeIndustry experience within water, utilities, infrastructure, or similar technical sectors highly desirableExperience using CRM systems for pipeline management Skills
Strongmercial awareness and attention to detailAbility to interpret technical drawings and specificationsExcellentmunication and relationship-building skillsStrong organisational and workload management capabilityAnalytical and numerate with a high level of accuracy Leadership & Attributes
Experience supporting or leading teams (formal or informal)Hands-on, proactive approach with the ability to self-manageCollaborative team player suited to a close-knit working environmentDriven, reliable, and professional in approach Technical Skills
