What You’ll Be Doing:
* Conducting radiological safety assessments to ensure compliance and safety.
* Assessing radiation damage risk to electronics, safeguarding vital systems.
* Developing and deploying cutting-edge radiation detection systems.
* Completing the systems engineering design of the secondary shielding system.
* Running and analyzing point kernel and Monte Carlo calculations.
* Providing technical advice on the impact of changes and defects across the entire vessel.
* Developing ALARP justifications to support design decisions.
Your Skills and Experiences:
* A degree in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Nuclear Science, or a related field.
* Demonstrable knowledge/experience in radiation physics, nuclear engineering, or nuclear safety.
* Experience with radiological safety assessments and ALARP justifications.
* Familiarity with radiation transport methods (e.g., ATTILLA, MCBEND, MCNP).

The Radiation Physics & Shielding Team:
Our team is at the forefront of designing and validating radiation shielding for the UK’s nuclear-powered submarine fleet. We engage across various submarine programs, from designing new shields to conducting radiation metrology during commissioning. We also conduct radiological safety studies, design novel radiation detectors, and develop capabilities in radiation damage to electronics. Relocation support packages are available for eligible candidates.
