The role: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic individual to join the Primary Care team within NHS Prison Health Care at HMP Low Moss. We work alongside our colleagues in the Scottish Prison Service as well as many other partner agencies to improve the physical and mental health and wellbeing of prisoners. The post holder is operationally responsible and professionally accountable to the Nurse Team Leader. This post is peripatetic across all four prisons in the Greater Glasgow & Clyde Health Board Area covering HMP Barlinnie, HMP Greenock, HMP Lilias and HMP Low Moss. Although you will be assigned a base, you will be expected to cross cover sites to meet the exigencies of the service. It is essential that you are experienced working in a clinical environment, professionalism, clinical skills and working within their competency, legal issues, role limitations and boundaries and balancing duty of care and public safety issues. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern: HMP Low Moss have 3 permanent positions available. There are two full-time positions (37hrs) and one part-time (18.5hrs) position available, please outline which one you are applying for in your application. Please see below a detailed description of shift patterns: Day shift: Monday - Thursday 07:00 - 15:00, Friday - 07:00 - 14:30 Long days: 07:00 - 19:00 Short days: 0700- 1430 or 14:30 - 22:00 (These are subject to change in the future with change in hours to 36) Weekend: 08:00 - 17:00 Key responsibilities: Participate in the delivery of Addiction services and assist the Registered Nurse to and from clinic area with Controlled Drugs and relevant documentation To perform basic administration functions within all aspects of Health Care including organising of case notes, filing and printing photographs etc Performing and reporting clinical observation checks and where necessary reporting changes on the condition of patients to the registered nurse or shift co-ordinator Assist health care staff in purchasing, ordering patient medication, distribution, stock control of pharmaceuticals, dressings, sundries and appliances within the prison Ensuring patient confidentiality is maintained at all times Routine and post incident checks of resuscitation, oxygen, suction and any other emergency equipment Routine checks of clinical equipment, including reporting of defects to Clinical Manager or Healthcare Manager Obtain urine, stool and sputum specimens and perform urinalysis Assist patient’s with hygiene elimination, mobility, physical comfort, eating and drinking and reporting specific changes to the registered nurse/professional. Having the confidence to express or raise concerns on behalf of patients or colleagues as deemed appropriate. Ensuring that all healthcare standards and protocols are maintained.
