Mechanical Design Engineer, permanent, Aberdeen

Having their extensive manufacturing facility on-site permits them to offer a unique, hands-on experience to physically witness their products throughout their entire lifecycle, from concept to manufacturing and production.
Location - South side of Aberdeen.
The mechanical Design Engineer job specification:
The successful candidate will be an integral member of a thriving ambitious design engineering team sharing the same drive and enthusiasm as their peers. The jobholder will be producing innovative engineering solutions supporting sales and projects from concept through to production where cost, time and quality are imperative. They will be required to show initiative in all aspects of the role and have the ability to work with minimal supervision but at the same time possess all the attributes of a great team player.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
o Design products from initial concept stage through to production in a professional and time efficient manner.
o Producing 3-D CAD Models and Detail Drawings to provide solutions in accordance with clients' requirements.
o Produce technical reports detailing work completed and the products produced. Including but not limited to, engineering calculations, Finite element analysis and CFD.
o To assist in the development of company design systems, standards and procedures o Look for continuous improvement
o To contribute development ideas for new and existing products
o Support work for proposals and projects working to tight deadlines
o Review and improve department systems/procedures/guides and contribute to inter department process improvements.
Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Training
o Engineering degree - Mechanical or Structural. A Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
o Or HND with 5 years post qualification experience minimum. Desirable:
o Working towards, a desire to obtain or near achieving Chartered Status Experience Required:
o Minimum of 3 years design experience within a fast paced engineering design environment, preferably in the Oil & Gas industry.
o Experience using FEA and 3D CAD software. Desirable:
o 5 years plus mechanical engineering design experience
o Experience in CFD
o Knowledge of the Oil & Gas Industry o Knowledge of designing buoyancy products (not essential).
Skills/Training Required:
o Excellent communication skills
o Ability to work in a team
o Lateral thinker
o Knowledge of CAD software and drawing standards preferably Inventor
o Ability to produce technical calculations quickly and accurately.
o Knowledge of FEA software, preferably Ansys.
o Competence in MS Word, Excel, Access
o Appreciation of company and Industry Standards Desirable:
o CFD experience using Ansys CFX
o Thermal and Mechanical FEA experience in Ansys
o Autodesk Inventor & Meridian (or other Database Management systems.)
o Competent ability in Mathcad
o Good technical report writing skill
