Overview
The General Surgical Directorate is seeking a new full-time Locum Consultant to support increased workloads and enhance clinical services. This 12‑month fixed‑term appointment will fill the role prior to a permanent appointment. The consultant will join a team of twenty gastrointestinal surgeons.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a broad training in general and laparoscopic surgery. Experience in complex biliary procedures, point‑of‑care ultrasound, or interest in Major Trauma systems would be an advantage.
Candidates who are unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties of a full‑time post will receive equal consideration. If appointed, the job content will be modified accordingly.

Responsibilities
* Responsibility for the general surgical emergency “Front Door” Monday‑Thursday 0900‑1700
* Admission and management of all general surgical emergency admissions Monday‑Friday when fully staffed
* Cover for the three “hot gallbladder” lists each week
* Participation in the on‑call rota 1:16 0800‑1300 (next day)
* Elective subspecialty of choice
The appointment is to the Trust, not to a specific hospital. All consultants will implement the Trust’s Clinical Governance program, including audit, quality, guidelines, development, appraisal, and risk management. The appointee will serve on the Consultant Staff Committee and collaborate across the Group, potentially working across multiple hospital sites as service needs evolve.
