Are you looking to develop your skills in expert clinical practice as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team?

An opportunity has arisen to join our Community Care Collaborative, with the opportunity to specialise in Diabetes and Endocrinology. The post holder would act as a key pharmacy contact for the directorate, supporting a range of clinical and operational projects, whilst also acting as part of the senior pharmacist team supporting the wider Collaborative.

We are looking for someone with extensive clinical pharmacy skills and experience; you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with a strong team spirit and the ability to motivate others. You must demonstrate confidence as an advanced clinical pharmacist, and a role model to early career and trainee pharmacists.

This post is based at the West Cumberland Hospital site, although there is an expectation that the post holder will have cross-site responsibilities and work closely with colleagues across the wider Trust, in developing and delivering pharmacy services.

Main duties of the job

  • Work closely with Clinicians and Nursing colleagues to support and promote the safe and effective use of medicines within the relevant directorates as well as ensuring the cost-effective use of resources.
  • Lead, deliver, and develop pharmacy services to relevant community care directorates in accordance with national priorities and local objectives.
  • Work as a pharmacist prescriber developing the role for designated areas of clinical practice.
  • Support the development of early career and trainee pharmacists.
  • Act as a senior member of the pharmacy team assisting with management of day-to-day operational duties as required.
  • Act as a line manager for designated band 6 or 7 pharmacists.
  • Actively participate within regional and national network forums to develop and improve clinical practice and share learning.
  • The post includes weekend working, participation in the bank holiday rota and on-call.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Pharmacy degree (Masters or equivalent)
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Higher pharmacy professional/postgraduate qualification
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • On the practising register of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPS)
  • Teaching and assessing qualification

Knowledge and Experience

  • Extensive specialist therapeutic and clinical knowledge relevant to the post and collaborative
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of relevant pharmacy/medicines standards, legal requirements and guidelines
  • Knowledge and awareness of implications of current developments in pharmacy practice and NHS strategies/policy
  • Knowledge of current and planned developments in the pharmacy profession
  • Understanding of NHS managerial and financial frameworks
  • Evidence of successful change management
  • Understanding of ePACT and other prescribing data
  • Knowledge of primary care prescribing and medicines management arrangements
  • Extensive experience in a secondary care role
  • Experience of reviewing patient group directions

  • Ability to critically review, analyse and interpret clinical literature, and medicines legislation
  • Appropriate IT skills to utilise clinical information systems, pharmacy computer systems, databases and other software to improve patient care
  • Computer literate and ability to use Word, Excel, and Powerpoint competently
  • Enthusiastic, self‑motivating, good organisational skills
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and within a team
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Co‑operative and flexible working style with Trust‑wide teams
  • Friendly, approachable, able to convey messages with empathy and diplomacy
  • Competent and confident to deliver complex presentations and training sessions
  • Understanding and experience of putting evidence into practice
