About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Principal Street Works Engineer to lead our Street Works team, ensuring the effective coordination, regulation, and monitoring of all activities on the public highway. You will play a key role in minimising disruption, maintaining safety, and ensuring full compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA), Traffic Management Act (TMA), and associated legislation.

About You
Experience and knowledge
* Proven experience in street works management.
* Strong working knowledge of NRSWA, TMA, DfT Permit Scheme guidance, and relevant Codes of Practice.
* Experience managing a team, providing leadership, motivation, and performance management.
* Demonstrable experience of working with utility companies, contractors, and stakeholders.
* Awareness of the impacts of road works on different types of road users and how those impacts can be mitigated.
Skills
* Excellent leadership, communication, and people-management skills.
* Strong understanding of highway operations, network management, and permitting processes.
* Ability to interpret legislation, technical guidance, and policy.
* High level of organisation, with the ability to balance competing priorities.
* Confident decision-maker, able to proactively manage risk and operational performance.
* Open to innovation with a focus on continuous improvement.
* Ability to build effective relationships and negotiate with internal and external partners.

This role offers the flexibility of blended working, with time split between home and our award-winning Civic Centre in Keynsham, conveniently located between Bath and Bristol. Hot desking options are also available at the Guildhall in Bath.
