Training Programme Director – Psychiatry Learning Disability

Within NHS England, South East Region, the Wessex Local Office is responsible for the planning, development, education and training of the future and current healthcare and public health workforce across Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Salisbury.

Applications are invited from current STC members or from other specialists who can demonstrate a strong interest in education and training. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall delivery of the Psychiatry L&D training programme and will work with the Head of School to lead activities that align with the NHS England mandate.


Main duties

* Improve learner supervision, assessment and experience, and engage faculty to ensure effective educational outcomes now and in the future.
* Lead whole‑workforce transformation efforts and develop multi‑professional links across the region.
* Provide strategic leadership in educational programming and contribute to workforce development and policy planning.
* Serve as a senior member of the multi‑professional team, strengthening communication and collaboration across clinical, operational and educational domains.


Job responsibilities and funding

The role carries a fixed level of funding contribution of £2,500 per annum per PA as an Educational Management Contribution (EMC) with 0.25 EMC allocated. The funding is not directly tied to salary and is designed to support the work performed under this secondment.

Applicants should discuss the secondment with their local Director of Medical Education to ensure time is freed up in their job plan to meet expectations. The Trust will backfill any clinical time required.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Primary clinical healthcare qualification.
* Fellowship of a relevant College/Faculty or professional body.
* Attendance at courses aimed at supporting educational development.


Employment/Experience

* Experience working with learners or doctors in training in an educational context.
* Evidence of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi‑professional team.
* Demonstrable track record of service and education delivery.
* Understanding of developments in relevant Colleges/Faculties and NHS workforce transformation agenda.
* Recent experience in recruitment, selection and E&D (within the last three years).
* Active engagement with appraisal processes.
* Knowledge of NHS structures, processes and the educational workforce context.
* Doctors must hold a licence to practise.
* Previous or current leadership role in healthcare education.
* Awareness of funding streams for healthcare education.
* Understanding of current health, social care and education policy.

Additional information

Successful candidates will receive a secondment; NHS employees must secure agreement from their employer prior to submitting an application. If accepted, the Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) procedure will be undertaken via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) system.
