An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Infection (Microbiology or Microbiology/Infectious Diseases).
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Microbiology Department in the largest Trust in the country.
The Department is involved in a Trust-wide project to create a cohesive infection service across all the hospitals within the Trust. It will incorporate colleagues in microbiology, virology, infectious diseases, sexual and reproductive health, respiratory medicine, genitourinary medicine and infection prevention.
This role involves cross-site working as required, supporting clinical microbiology services for Wythenshawe Hospital, including Critical Care. The laboratory is located on the Oxford Road Campus.
Main duties of the job
We are recruiting for a Consultant Microbiologist to join our team and be a driving force in further developing our infection service. This post suits patient-facing clinicians looking to develop specialist interests in the many areas available.

Qualifications
* Essential
o Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practice) with the General Medical Council (or eligible for registration within 6 months of interview)
o MB ChB or equivalent
o FRCPath or equivalent
* Desirable
o Postgraduate thesis
o MRCP or equivalent
o Diploma in Infection Prevention - MB ChB or equivalent & Control
Clinical experience
* Essential
o Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Medical Microbiology or Medical Microbiology/Infectious Diseases, or within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview
o Ability to offer expert opinion and deal with a range of problems
o Ability to develop an area of specialist clinical interest
* Desirable
o Experience in a range of infection control problems, including outbreak management
o Experience in management of in-patients or infection clinics including OPAT
Management and administrative experience
* Essential
o Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service
o Ability to organise and manage priorities
o Understanding of clinical governance network

o Formal management training
Teaching Experience
