Overview

This is an exciting time to be part of Neurodevelopmental Services. We seek a dynamic and innovative consultant clinical psychologist to contribute to the development of the East ND service, reflecting the changing needs of our population. You will be a compelling leader who can use the evidence base to inform clinical practice, providing highly specialist clinical and consultation skills within a very supportive multidisciplinary team. You will work with the senior leadership team and partner agencies within the East area to develop new ways of working, in conjunction with regional ND developments across North Wales. You will bridge the data needs between performance and clinical requirements, ensuring that data are collected meaningfully to meet performance requirements and used to develop clinical services.

We have a supportive network of child psychologists across specialisms and a regional assistant psychologist dedicated to research. We have excellent links with the North Wales Clinical Psychology Programme, provide placements and regular teaching, and access CPD.


Main duties

* Provide a highly specialised clinical psychology service, delivering specialist psychological assessment and therapy to clients.
* Work individually and in accordance with the practice code, ethical principles, and guidelines of the BPS and HCPC.
* Take delegated responsibility for professional leadership, planning, systematic provision and review of Child Clinical Services within the East area of BCUHB.
* Lead and manage clinical psychologists, assistant psychologists and psychological therapists within Child Clinical Psychology Services in the East.
* Interpret broad clinical and professional policies, and be accountable for own professional actions and decisions.
* Develop, interpret and implement policies and service developments for the East area.
* Develop psychological therapies provision and ensure clinical governance processes are in place and implemented in the East area.
* Carry a highly specialist clinical caseload of clients with complex and enduring needs within the East BCUHB area.
* Ensure provision of child clinical placements for the North Wales Clinical Psychology Programme (NWCPP).
* Provide teaching and training for multidisciplinary BCUHB staff and for the NWCPP.
* Utilise highly specialised research skills for audit, policy and service development and research.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

* Honours Degree in Psychology
* Eligibility for Graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
* Post-graduate Doctoral qualification in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or overseas), as accredited by the BPS
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
* Clinical supervision training for Doctoral Trainees
* Doctoral-level knowledge of clinical psychology theory and practice, psychological therapies and their application, neuropsychological and psychometric assessment and interpretation
* Attendance at formal management and health leadership training programmes
* Doctoral-level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practised within clinical psychology
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for clinical practice and professional management in psychology
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC

Desirable

* Pre-qualification training in research methodology, staff training or other fields of applied psychology

Experience – Essential

* Competence to satisfy the assessment requirements of two BPS/DoH National Assessors for entrance into Consultant Grade
* Substantial experience as a qualified and senior clinical psychologist, with post-qualification experience in the designated specialty or transferable skills
* Experience of working as a senior clinical psychologist in the designated specialty or transferable skills
* Extensive clinical supervision and leadership experience in psychological services
* Experience of highly specialised psychological assessment and treatment across diverse client groups and care settings
* Experience coordinating care within multidisciplinary care-planning
* Experience in teaching, training and professional/clinical supervision

Desirable

* Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision
