Public Law Department:
Our Public Law team is highly regarded, with a dynamic and exceptional team recognized for excellence UK-wide. The department handles both publicly funded (legal aid) and privately funded work, including civil liberties and judicial review cases involving the Home Office, HMRC, local authorities, and NHS. We frequently follow judicial reviews with damages claims and represent clients in the County and High Courts, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court. Our work often involves vulnerable and marginalized clients, and our international presence enhances our challenge to UK government practices abroad.
As a well-established firm, we are familiar with the Legal Aid Agency, Courts, and Government Legal Department. Our work demonstrates high success rates, with many cases setting legal precedents. We collaborate with other firms and barristers chambers to deliver high-quality legal services.
Main Responsibilities:
* Report directly to the Department Director
* Manage all aspects of Public Law work, providing technical expertise and guidance
* Supervise Solicitors, Trainee Solicitors, and Caseworkers
* Assist with training and development within the department
* Handle various Public Law matters such as unlawful detention, false imprisonment, detention abuse, age assessments, asylum support, challenging decisions, NHS & Local Authority challenges, and tribunal work
* Prepare and manage funding applications to the Legal Aid Agency
* Draft legal documents, witness statements, and process evidence
* Prepare applications and attend conferences and court proceedings
* Maintain a proactive professional approach, excellent client care, and contribute to business development and marketing
Key Skills and Requirements:
* Law Society Immigration Accreditation Level 2 (IAAS) & Supervisor (desirable, not necessary)
* Strong commitment and drive to provide excellent client service
* Valid Practising Certificate at the time of application
* Team player with fair approach to team concerns and fostering positive culture
* Proven supervisory experience and ability to meet KPIs
* Professional, proactive, with excellent client care and sensitivity handling vulnerable clients
* Excellent networking and marketing skills to generate new business
* Knowledge of Legal Aid Guidance for Public Law and experience with privately funded cases
* Extensive experience in Public Law work, with advocacy skills as an advantage
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and document management
