Overview
Emergency General Surgery (EGS) Consultants with a sub specialty interest in either Colorectal, Paediatrics or complex interventional endoscopy are sought to join the Emergency General Surgery department at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful applicant will join an existing team of Emergency Surgeons. The department is fully funded and supported through the National Forum for Acute Surgeons, with opportunities to develop subspecialty interests within the job plan.
Responsibilities
* Work with the current specialty leads to build the initial working patterns and operating procedures for the department, including the EGS wards, operating theatres and ambulatory care.
* Develop ambulatory and alternative provision models to support patients.
* Provide an Emergency General Surgery service of the highest standards for Cornwall.
* Provide and develop a specialty interest within children’s general surgery, colorectal or upper GI surgery, hepatobiliary or complex endoscopic practice.
* Share responsibility with colleagues for day-to-day management of the EGS department, including developing a research portfolio.
* Teach and train junior staff and medical students in EGS, including developing weekly evidence-based governance and service development.
* Ensure ongoing development via Continuing Medical Education (CME).
* Fulfil duties of weekly timetable including out-of-hours work.
* Provide patient cover for off-site or absent consultants.
* Engage in flexible timetabling with cooperation from the multidisciplinary team.
* Support colleagues throughout the multidisciplinary team and promote a culture of respect.
