Principal Transport Planner
Somerset Council
We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – you’ll be a key part of that. As a Principal Transport Planner, you will develop and implement local transport policies and plans, ensure effective transport planning and performance reporting, and drive infrastructure investment. You will also manage projects, supervise and mentor staff, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and organisational policies.
Responsibilities
* Develop local transport policies and plans through corporate and partnership working.
* Prepare and monitor the Council’s Local Transport Plan to ensure policy outcomes are delivered.
* Review and recommend changes to current transport policies or strategies to improve service delivery.
* Develop infrastructure delivery plans and formulate funding bids for investment.
* Manage projects and project teams, including supervision, training and mentoring staff.
Qualifications
* Educated to Degree Level with an appropriate professional qualification.
* In‑depth understanding of transport policy issues and best practices; knowledge of current legislation related to highways and transport, and familiarity with transport models and technical assessments.
* Demonstrable experience in partnership working and multi‑agency collaboration.
* Strong analytical skills for assessing transport data and evidence.
* Competency in using transport planning software and tools.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Permanent, full‑time contract (37 hours per week). Hybrid working: from home (subject to managerial approval) or from one of our offices.

Salary
Grade 9: £41,771 to £46,142 per annum.
