Job Overview
Our Support Officers play a critical role, providing excellent customer service and administrative support to court and tribunal users, judiciary and management. You will progress cases through the court/tribunal system and give key customer service support to functions within HMCTS.
Key Responsibilities
* Preparing papers and files for court, tribunals, hearings and meetings, including processing and handling sensitive information and accurately producing outcomes.
* Creating and updating records digitally, interpreting information accurately required on a court file.
* Communicating with the Public, the Judiciary, other Court and Tribunal Users and Representatives of other Agencies and Organisations.
* Serving as the first point of contact for court users, including vulnerable witnesses and their legal representatives.
* Preparing court/hearing rooms and ensuring the court runs efficiently.
Working Hours and Patterns
Standard full‑time hours are 37 hours per week. HMCTS welcomes part‑time, flexible, and job‑sharing working patterns where they meet the demands of the role and business needs. Minimum hours for part‑time posts are 30 hours per week over five days.
Location
These posts are based at Northampton Combined Court, 85‑87 Lady’s Lane, Northampton, NN1 3HQ or Northampton Magistrates’ Court, Campbell Square, Northampton, NN1 3EB. Successful candidates must be able to travel to all Court sites within Northamptonshire.

Applicants should have:
* Customer service skills; ability to work in a service‑led, customer‑facing environment.
* Digital and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
* Strong communication and organisational skills; confident in person, telephone, digital and written communications.
* Resilience and empathy to handle sensitive information and situations.
* Team‑player attitude; able to work collaboratively and flexibly to deliver business objectives.
Immigration Status
This role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas under current immigration rules. Applicants must hold a Skilled Worker visa prior to 22 July 2025 or be eligible under transitional provisions. Successful applicants must ensure they have the legal right to live and work in the Civil Service and the United Kingdom.
