Senior Mechanical Design EngineerSouthampton (Onsite; 4.5 days per week)Up to £60k per annum + Benefits + Relocation SupportOur client is a specialist engineering company that designs and manufactures bespoke electromechanical equipment and industrial process machinery for a range of highly regulated industries. Their multidisciplinary engineering team delivers complex projects from concept through to manufacture, installation, and commissioning.As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll be reporting to the Head of Engineering. You will take technical ownership of the mechanical design and development of bespoke industrial equipment, supporting projects throughout the full product lifecycle.Key ResponsibilitiesLead mechanical design activities for bespoke machinery and electro-mechanical systemsProduce 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and technical documentationDesign special-purpose machinery, process equipment, and conveyor/material handling systemsSupport integration of electrical/electronic systems, including enclosures and packagingCollaborate with internal engineering teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partnersEnsure designs comply with manufacturing, safety, CE, and UKCA requirementsSupport installation, commissioning, and technical problem-solving where requiredSkills & ExperienceStrong 3D CAD experience using Solid Edge or similar (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, etc.)Background designing bespoke electro-mechanical equipment or special-purpose machineryStrong understanding of manufacturing processes, tolerancing, and DFM/DFA principlesExperience with sheet metal design, structural assemblies, and enclosuresKnowledge of conveyor/material handling systemsStrong problem-solving skills and a practical engineering mindsetDesirableHydraulics and pneumatics experienceExposure to installation, commissioning, and fault-findingKnowledge of CE/UKCA machinery compliance standardsOpportunity to work on highly bespoke engineering projects.
