Role overview
Ripon Farm Services is seeking an experienced and motivated Agricultural Service Technician who specialises in self‑propelled forage harvesters to join our professional Service team based from the Ripon depot. This is an exciting opportunity to work with industry leading machinery, including John Deere products, and play a key role in delivering exceptional customer service.
As an Agricultural Service Technician, you will carry out diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on customer and dealer‑owned agricultural equipment particularly self‑propelled forage harvesters. You will act as an ambassador for Ripon, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and quality workmanship.
This role involves workshop and field‑based work, supporting customers with service and repair work, setup, optimisation, and ongoing machine performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform diagnostics, service, and repairs on agricultural machinery, with emphasis on self‑propelled forage harvesters and related systems.
* Work confidently with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and AMS technologies.
* Complete all job cards, DTAC cases, timesheets, and admin accurately and on time.
* Deliver “right‑first‑time” repairs to maintain customer satisfaction and departmental performance.
* Carry out field‑based diagnostics and repairs when required.
* Advise customers on machine optimisation and deliver on‑farm training sessions.
* Promote JDLink, Technology, and other value‑added services.
* Perform pre‑delivery inspections, setups, and quality control checks.
* Liaise with manufacturers and specialists on complex technical repairs.
* Lead by example in Health & Safety, compliance and housekeeping.
* Support training of apprentices and junior technicians, with potential to mentor your own trainee.
* Maintain professional standards at all times when representing Ripon and John Deere.
Skills & Qualifications
* 4+ years’ experience performing service, diagnostics, and repairs on agricultural machinery.
* Strong, proven background with self‑propelled forage harvesters (is preferred but not essential as full training will be provided).
* Competent with advanced diagnostic systems.
* Experience with major unit overhauls, hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrains.
* Certification in Land-based Service Engineering Technician (Level 3) or equivalent.
* Excellent customer service and communication skills with a positive, proactive attitude.
* Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Full UK driving licence essential
* Ability to work extra hours, weekends, or at short notice when required.
* Comfortable using different computer systems, manufacturer bulletins, online systems, and technical documentation.
