Overview
The Coronary Care Unit at Torbay Hospital is looking for a highly motivated, innovative and experienced senior nurse to join our dynamic team. The CCU consists of 8 monitored beds and a 6 bedded Chest pain Unit. The unit directly admits patients suffering from a Myocardial Infarction and cares for other acute cardiac conditions. We have close working relationships with Dunlop, Cardiac Catheter Suite, Cardiac Research team and Cardiac specialist nurses.
Responsibilities
* Be committed to caring for patients and their carers as part of a multidisciplinary professional team, under the supervision of the team leader / shift coordinator.
* Be responsible and accountable for the assessment and planning care for designated patients; implement the appropriate care plan; promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, their carers, visitors and staff while complying with the Trust values and expected behaviours.
* Document and evaluate care given and discuss progress, condition and treatment with colleagues, alerting the primary team leader / nurse in charge of the shift of changing health care needs.
* Act as an advocate for staff, patients and relatives at all times.
* Using information from the assessment and observations, identify the patient7;s individual nursing care needs, and plan and implement care.
* Be aware of the side effects of any treatment in progress, and adopt a problem-solving approach to minimise potentially adverse reactions.
* To undertake intravenous drug administration, following successful completion of the Trust training and assessment, within six months of being in post.
* Be aware of all hospital policies and procedures and collaborate with other health care professionals to ensure that these are observed.
* Recognise patients changing condition and seek the appropriate support and advice from senior staff.
* Be involved in the direct delivery of skilled specialised nursing care with supervision until competent (e.g. wound dressings, removal of drains, and insertion of urinary catheters).
* Collaborate with the team leader in the planning of a patient's discharge from hospital.
