The role
Oviva has been commissioned to provide a specialist Tier 3 weight management service for people living with complex obesity and are looking for a Clinical Psychologist to grow our current psychology team. You will work alongside the psychology and dietetics teams.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist with weight management experience and/or eating disorders experience to be involved in the delivery of a service incorporating a mixed clinical approach. The service offers a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team (MDT) approach, combining consultant-led care with specialist dietetics, clinical and health psychology, as well as leveraging technology to improve participant access and outcomes.
The psychology service provides psychological therapy to participants, to aid motivation and success towards their weight management goals. You will be using technology, such as our Oviva app and telephone coaching to provide care remotely and monitor / review patients progress in collaboration with the MDT. You will be using theoretical principles from CBT and other evidence-based behaviour change approaches.
Whilst it is important to be able to work autonomously in a weight management setting, you will receive comprehensive training. You will also have access to clinical supervision and support from our Senior Clinical Psychologist and the Clinical Lead for Psychology. Key Responsibilities
Delivering one to one patient weight management care remotely via phone or video calls and / or using the Oviva smartphone app. The remit of this role is primarily to support changes in eating and activity behaviours, rather than treat common mental health problems.
Assessing patients for psychological therapy as part of the weight management service; to independently implement appropriate initial assessment methods.
Collaborating with the MDT (dietitians, nurses, fellow psychology team members) regarding the care of participants and to provide specialised advice to such staff during clinical supervision sessions regarding the treatment of patients.
Supporting PWPs with complex cases and providing advice/adhoc training to the team as required.
Creating individual formulations based on initial screening and assessment, providing therapeutic weight management and lifestyle change input for patients identified as suitable within the Tier 3 service, alongside dietetic support, drawing on your own clinical expertise within weight management/eating disorders, psychological theory, our existing care packages, current research, and relevant guidelines, e.g. NICE.
Initial screening involves assessing risk of Binge Eating Disorder which may then be discussed with MDT.
Appropriately manage clinical risk (e.g. safeguarding concerns) when it arises during clinical practice.
Working autonomously, being responsible for appropriately managing clinical risk when it arises during clinical practice, while having recourse to other professionals for guidance.
To maintain adequate CPD, receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with good practice guidelines and continue to meet BPS registration requirements.
Maintaining confidentiality of information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act and ensuring that participant confidentiality is protected at all times.
Creating relevant internal or patient-facing content for the service, as required.
